My Credit Card was Stolen

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

You'd think it was compromised online, but I'm pretty sure it was an offline number snatch. I get those fraud calls all the time because it's a business card and we make crazy-ass purchases all the time. But this time when they called, the purchases were definitely not me -- Puma.com, Sears, Montgomery Ward (are they still in business somewhere?), and the weirdest was an account setup with USPS for regular post office transactions - averaging about $150 a pop. Yikes. Sounded like they ran up over $3K. Thankfully, I am not responsible for any of it. Isn't that amazing? You hear awful stuff about credit companies and the sneaky stuff they do and the predatory lending and whatnot. But this "you're not responsible for stolen card charges" thing is a pretty great perk.

Now I just have to check my credit report and make sure I'm not a victim of identity theft. Acckk.
