Indy's family party was lovely this year. His sense of humor is coming out and it's as I would expect -- subtle and totally obtuse. He insisted on a "Freeze Loser" football themed birthday cake (he does not actually know what football is and has been seen often kicking a football); he got his second pair of under-roos (he danced around happily in the first pair he got) and tossed the second pair on the floor dramatically and rudely. And as for "Freeze Loser" this is what passes for clever around here in his mind along with statements like, "I love you so much I could kick you in the face." I think these kinds of things get laughs with the 5 something crowd. As do singing Ke$ha songs, which he is fond of memorizing. I feel for the kid adopted from Russia that got sent back. That woman would have definitely sent Indy packing. ;-)
Every once in awhile I consider trying to clamp down on the weird, but why? I am supposing it could grow into something akin to . . . Serial Killer? Tim Burton? One can't guess. But his new teacher tells me he is very kind and has made deep personal connections with a few of his classmates. She said, "It is something I rarely see in children his age." So that makes his parents happy. As did his question to the 13 year old neighbor boy 2 days ago (who had been sick last week), "Are you feeling better now, Nigel?"
Anyway, Indy is 6, and I'm obviously very proud of him. I love his uniqueness, and I even love that the kid with a big heart thinks putting the phrase, "kick you in the face," at the end of random sentences passes for humor.
Happy birthday buddy!
